The site design has been completely overhauled using CSS. You will need a newer browser, like Firefox 1.0+, or Explorer 6.0+ to take advantage of this. If you are having problems, please email the webmaster, and you can revert to the old layout if necessary.

I've changed the UI to be a bit more intuitive. Let me know what you think.

Happy Holidays to everyone! You know, I try my best to to keep this site free of all things promotional, but I recently did a composition of one of my favorite Christmas tunes and would like to hear some feedback on it. You can download or stream the MP3 by heading here. Please email me and let me know what you think!

Users have reported difficulty adding and updating songs. These problems should be fixed now. Email the webmaster if you experience any further difficulties.

Due to a change in a PHP setting done by my web provider some time ago (not sure exactly when since they didn't --tell-- me.. grrrr..) you may have noticed that some recent song entries have annoying "slash quotes" in them (also known as double-escaped quotes). They look like \" or \' or \\' or \\\\' depending on how many times something was edited.

Unfortunately I haven't found a good way of automatically changing these back but I have fixed the underlying problem so there won't be any more generated. Until I come up with an automatic solution, please manually modify any recent submission with quotes in them.

Questions? Email the webmaster.

Everything seems to be running smoothly here at S3M.COM. Over the last six months I've been very busy finishing school, interviewing all over the place, then moving abot 1000 miles to a new job after graduation.

Needless to say, I haven't had a lot of time to spend upgrading the site. Luckily the work I did in the past has allowed me to keep approving new accounts with very little effort and our composor and song list just keeps growing.

You can probably expect a small update in the relatively near future to clear up a couple small annoying things, but probably nothing big unless I receive email outlining major that needs fixing.

Thanks again to all S3M composers who keep providing excellent digital music for us all to enjoy.

Due to an unspecified problem at my new provider, s3m.com's entire database was wiped out, apparently with no backup on their end.

After some major configuration issues, I was finally able to restore a backup I had on my local machine from January 4, 2001. If you signed up, added/changed songs, or did anything else that affected the database since then, it will have to be re-done.

My apologies for this inconvenience. Believe me, I had to spend several hours just trying to get this offsite backup to work. If you have any questions, feel free to email (address on webpage).

I was starting to get annoyed with my previous web provider. Outages were becoming more frequent, and transfer speeds were quite slow to my Rogers@Home cable modem account.

Therefore I recently switched to a new hosting provider. So far I'm very happy with the service, and I hope this will continue (since switching providers can be a difficult task when you need to migrate a large account with so many mySQL database entries :)

Let me know if you notice a speed difference (faster or slower) and if you notice any problems after mid-January or so (give me some time to iron out potential bugs :) -- (address on webpage)

Perhaps you've noticed the "Report Broken Link" button on the play songs page. I'm hoping this will help improve the quality of the archive. Please don't abuse this new feature. Only report links if you've followed the instructions on that page. And please only report broken links once.

Let me know if you have any questions of comments on this new feature: (address on webpage)

Hard to believe S3M.COM is 2 years old. Easier to believe when Network Solutions comes knocking for your domain renewal. Of cours, I decided to switch from those thieves to a friendlier domain registrar.

So in celebration of S3M.COM's 2-year anniversary, a small update. S3M.COM should now be quicker and slicker, sticking to my promise to give you the music, with no added fat. The HTML has been simplified, and the interface chopped to its bare essentials. Please send comments and bug reports to me.

Everything with the site seems to be working smoothly, which is good. I don't have much time to do updates these days. Very busy finishing up my last year of school, and working on an open-source game called Fate.

But in the meantime, Composers: Keep signing up and telling other musicians about S3M.. and Listeners: Keep enjoying the high quality music, with no added distractions.

Wow.. I've been so busy with exams that I almost missed S3M.COM's first birthday. Thanks to all musicians who have contributed. Since S3M.COM came online, we've had about 560,000 hits from about 21,000 unique IPs. Watch S3M.COM for more features and improvements in the future.

I'd like to extend a special welcome to all ModHeaven composers who will be posting their music here while the ModHeaven webmaster is away.

Just a quick update so everyone knows I'm still alive :-) New members have been signing up at a rate of about 10 per month. Lots of new songs weekly. Well over 100 unique hits a day. The new system seems to be running smoothly. Please don't hesitate to report any system glitches, suggestions or comments to (address on webpage)

The new music database is up and running! You can access it by simply clicking on the 'Music' link or by going to http://www.s3m.com/dma

February 1, 1999
Well, the good news is that the new system is almost working. The bad news is that it is not quite 100% finished. I won't be processing any new accounts, or adding links until I finish the scripts. For the brave, you can test out the new system at http://www.s3m.com/dma - but be warned, it may look a little funny at times, or spit out the wrong information. I'm just learning this whole PHP3 thing :-) Please feel free to report any problems to (address on webpage) ... with your help, I'll have this thing going in no time.

Happy New Years! Welcome to the recent additions to S3M.COM. Expect some great new things at S3M.COM in the new year. I'm going to be automating the site with PHP3 and mySQL to allow more automatic signups and song updates. S3M.COM members will be able to do things from the web, instead of having to e-mail me each time. I hope to have the new system up and running by the end of the month.. we'll see :-)

December 12, 1998
Well, the first half of December has been pretty uneventful here at S3M.COM. I've been really busy with final exams and haven't had much of a chance to work on updates. I did have time to work on a song, though. On my music page, you can find a new christmas song I composed (to put you in the holiday spirit :-)

November 21, 1998
Some people have e-mailed and asked if I still compose music. I must admit, not as much as I used to. But, yes, I still do. I have my music under my directory here. I also store some pre-release stuff on my personal page.

November 7, 1998
I've restructured the main page slightly to include the most recent news items. I've also split up the Music Index (since it was getting pretty long :) Let me know if you have any other restructuring ideas.

October 21th, 1998
Well, I've finally finished the comments on almost all the songs. There's a few more that I need new copies of since they were corrupt. So check out the comments in the music section - http://www.s3m.com/music/
BTW, we're now averaging close to 60 hits/day and rising. Don't forget to tell all your tracking friends about S3M.COM :-)

October 12th, 1998
Wow... We're up to about 40-50 hits per day here at S3M.COM. We've signed on 5 new musicians just in the last week. At this rate, I could run out of space before the end of the year! Coming soon: comments and/or ratings on music. And remember, space is limited: If you are a digital musican, see http://www.s3m.com/info/howto/ for signup information asap! :-)

September 28th, 1998
Well, we've been live for two weeks now. Since going live we've signed on 3 new musicians, for a total of lucky 13. They are listed under http://www.s3m.com/music/

I've added some links at http://www.s3m.com/links/ - See that page for information on how to add your link.

September 14th, 1998
S3M.COM is now live! We are still signing on musicians and expanding. Stay tuned for enhancements.
