Fate of the Universe was started by myself and two others. It was designed to be
a game similar to the Might and Magic series. Specifically, a role-playing game
with a large 2D overview map to explore, as well as creatures to battle along the
way to solving quests.
It turned out to be fairly up-to-date technically, for its time. Its support for
VGA 256-colour graphics, Adlib and Soundblaster support put it on par with most
games of the time. Only a few games had experimented with the newer SuperVGA
video cards that had recently hit the market.
The game was never completed, but got very close. With a few more people, and a
little more time, I think it could have done very well on the shareware market :)
Nevertheless, it was a fun learning experience.
Now, for the first time ever, I've put together a tribute page, with sourcecode,
screen shots, and utility programs. I don't think there's any reason for one to
continue work on such as outdated game, but feel free to browse over the code and
look at the ideas. Bear in mind that I was just learning C++ at the time, and my
coding style had not quite "matured" :)
Please consider all code, graphics, and documentation as copyright © by me, and ask
permission before reproducing in any form. Thanks!

To create the custom graphics for the game, we decided to use a half-finished graphical
editor I'd made. This was a fairly simple editor that we revamped to save different
sized images, and import .PCX files.

We didn't have any MIDI keyboards or equipment, but wanted to have great background
music for the game. We were familiar with a program called Scream Tracker that arranged
music in piano roll style. I designed a MIDI composer that operated like Scream Tracker,
but exported to a MIDI format that our library files could play in the background.
